Staff Biographies

Fr. Tim Clark -  Pastor/Priest Administrator 

Fr. Tim was ordained in 1980 at St. James Cathedral.  He has a bachelor’s degree in English Literature with a minor in Philosophy.  He studied in Rome from 1976-1980 where he earned an STB and beginning STL in Sacramental Theology.  Fr. Tim was born and raised in Portland, OR and moved to the Seattle area in 1969.  He is the oldest of five siblings.  Fr. Tim is an avid cyclist who also loves the sea and loves to read.  Fr. Tim serves as the spiritual leader of this parish/school community.

John Cowan - Pastoral Assistant for Administration

John comes to us after working over 25 years in the environmental science and engineering business.  His work has taken him and his family all over the world.  John received his BS from the UW and a MA from  Seattle University’s School of Theology & Ministry.  John and his wife Mary have two children both of whom live in the Seattle area.  After 38 years of marriage John lost his wife to cancer in 2015.  John has a love of the outdoors, gardening, reading and continues a practice in Centering Prayer he started with his wife. John serves as the Administrator of the Parish and the School and works closely with Fr. Tim and Daniel Mullen to ensure that we are meeting the needs of the parish/school community.

Daniel Mullen – School Principal

Mr. Mullen graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a B.A. in English, received his Master’s in Teaching from Seattle University, and is in the Mary Ann Remick Leadership Program at Notre Dame. Mr. Mullen was born in Chicago and has attended or worked in Catholic schools for more than 25 years. Prior to OLL, he served in various teaching and administrative positions at O'Dea H.S. and St. Anthony School, and worked in communications and development at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Mr. Mullen lives in Lake Forest Park with his wife and two daughters. The Fulcrum Foundation named him a “Champion of Catholic Education” in 2015.

McKenzie Mauss - Director of Faith Formation

McKenzie graduated from Gonzaga with a dual degree in Religious Studies and Psychology. She met her husband at Gonzaga, who after graduating, joined the Navy. They are returning from living in the Middle East, for the past two years. They have a young daughter, Abra Amelia, and look forward to settling into the community. McKenzie has a great passion for traveling, ministry and her family.

Abbie Naze - Director of Music and Liturgy

Abbie, originally from North Dakota, graduated in 2017 from the UW with a Master's Degree in Orchestral Conducting where she sang with the university's premier collegiate choral ensemble, the UW Chamber Singers. Prior to moving to Seattle, Abbie studied cello, voice, and piano during her Bachelor studies at Minot State University. Though she will forever cherish her Norwegian Lutheran roots, she happily became Catholic in June of 2017 at St. James Cathedral. When Abbie isn't busy preparing the music and liturgy or teaching music at Pierce College in Puyallup, she is often searching for hidden gems in Seattle with her significant other, Ryan, and spends a good amount of time spoiling her Tuxedo kitten, Sushi.

Deacon Denny Duffell

Denny was born and raised in St. Louis, schooled by the Jesuits in high school and graduated from Marquette University before joining the Jesuit Volunteer Corps in 1969 as the start of nearly 50 years of ministry, teaching school in Jesuit missions in Alaska and Montana, and meeting a fellow volunteer who eventually his wife Joan. Coming to Seattle, they and their now-grown four children lived in the Catholic Worker Community.

for 5 years, and Denny worked full-time at Immaculate Conception (9 years) and St. Bridget (32), and served as the Catholic chaplain for Children’s Hospital (34). Along the way he was ordained a deacon in 1989, and came to OLL 4 years ago. Officially “retired,” Denny serves regularly as our Deacon, while also serving the wider community as the Regional Coordinator for Pax Christi Northwest.

Torrie Smith - Pastoral Coordinator for Stewardship and Office Manager

Torrie was raised in Seattle and moved to La Jolla in 7th grade. She returned to Seattle and graduated from the Art Institute of Seattle with a music business degree and then worked in new business development for radio in Seattle and New York City. After 8 years in New York City, she returned to California where she her son, Ronan, was born but chose to return to her roots in Seattle so he could be raised near family. Torrie and her family are long time parishioners of St. Catherine’s and more recently has worked at St. Pat’s  and Holyrood Cemetery. Torrie lives in Bothell with her son and they enjoy going to the movie, traveling and laughing together.

Kate Brown - Youth Ministry Director

Kate Brown, or KB as she also goes by, is the Youth Ministry Director for N Seattle Catholic Youth. Originally from a small town in Pennsylvania, KB has served in youth ministry in Maine, Louisiana, and Indiana.  She has a dog named Mena, named after Saint Philomena, (one of) the Patron Saint of Youth.  KB is addicted to coffee, is an avid college football fan, and thinks Harry Potter is the greatest thing ever written (after the Bible, obviously).  She has every intention of becoming a Saint.

Gloria Arteaga - Bookkeeper

Gloria’s background is in Construction Finance. She used that experience to serve as the Parish Rep for the building of the new event center & while doing so, was asked to be the parish bookkeeper. She has been the PT parish bookkeeper since 2013. In addition to OLL, she is the parish bookkeeper for St. Teresa of Calcutta in Woodinville. Parish Bookkeeping is a job she enjoys very much. Her main career is as a General Contractor. She has been a G.C. for 19 years. Gloria has been a parishioner at OLL for 10 years. She has been married for 17 years & has 4 children, 3 of which are attending the parish school & one who graduated from OLL in 2017. Our Lady of the Lake is her home & we couldn’t imagine belonging to any other parish.

Liz Jackman - Morning Office Administrator & Safe Environment

Liz was born in Puerto Rico but moved to Washington when she was a baby. She was raised in Bellevue and grew up in the Sacred Heart Parish and went to High School at Forest Ridge. She graduated from Whitman College and worked as a Claims Adjuster for Eagle Insurance for 10 years.  Before joining our parish staff she has been involved at our parish school volunteering.  Liz and her husband, Craig have been a parishioner at OLL since 2003 and have two kids, John and Isabel. John graduated from OLL’s Parish school in 2012 and Isabel is an 8th grader there now. Liz and her family enjoy spending time with friends and love the Huskies!

Jody Fitts - Afternoon Office Administrator

Jody was born in Seattle and raised in Edmonds.  She graduated from Shoreline Community College then started working as an Office Manager for her father’s CPA firm for over 20 years before joining the OLL parish staff.  Jody and her husband Barney have two kids Sean (9) and Sofia (7) that keep them very busy.  Jody enjoys watching sports, gardening, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

Tim Pruss - Maintenance Director

Tim is responsible for keeping the parish buildings in a clean and safe state for all who use them.  In many ways he is a "jack of all trades”.  Tim is highly invested in the physical space we call our parish.   He has worked at OLL for many years, knows a great deal about the facility’s history.  Tim has lived in Washington all his life and has a wife, Cathy, and two grown children, Jill and Jakob.
